With the advent of spring, the cub ventures out watched by an owl in her tree. In the company of little bear, we visit a variety of animal homes starting with the cub and her family’s cave, dark and deep. ‘All of us need a place to rest – / A cave, a warren, a pond, a nest … // Wherever we may choose to roam, / We need a place to call our home.” So says Patricia Hegarty’s introduction to this look at the forest that is home to all kinds of creatures large and small. Recommend for elementary school aged picture book readers to spark interest in the many topics within. Here are two books from Little Tiger that focus on nature and the changing seasons Although the facts are limited in scope, there is still a lot to learn and think about when we talk about seasons, and I appreciated the way the book introduces the topic of the way plants and animals adapt with the seasons.įinal verdict: Lovely, educational, and interactive, SEASONS is a fun picture book to explore with plenty of locations, changes, and cool facts to learn. The poems at the beginning of each section, as well as those at the beginning and end of the book add some lovely melody to the reading. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, and I love the inclusion of so many animals along with their habitats that add some interest and details to keep young attention spans. This makes it all the more entertaining and educational.

I loved the facts on the back of each partial page flap that give more information and cool facts about some of the animals and trees. The changes through seasons as well as how those seasons are defined are really interesting. What I loved: This interactive book is a view of different climates, locations, and the amazing plants and animals that live there. The book explores a variety of locations, including the arctic and mangrove trees in Northern Australia. As readers turn each smaller page flap, they see what it looks like during the other seasons, as well as facts about the environment and animals who inhabit it during each season.

For instance, the book begins with a scene around a Mighty Oak and all the animals who live there. SEASONS is an intriguing book that takes the reader to different parts of the world and examines how they change with the differing seasons.
